There is more to the Eastern Conference than just the likes of the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks. There are also teams like the Orlando Magic, who turned lots of heads in the 2023-24 NBA season by taking a big leap. Among the key reasons for the Magic’s improvement in the last campaign was former Gonzaga Bulldogs star guard Jalen Suggs.
Milwaukee Bucks’ East Rival Could Sign Guard Soon To Huge Extension
At the moment, Suggs has a guaranteed contract for a year after Magic picked up his club option for the 2024-25 season worth $9.19 million. However, Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports, Suggs is likely to get a huge extension deal from Orlando before the deadline in October.
Jalen Suggs is a strong candidate to receive an extension from the Magic before the October 21 deadline. Based off the current market, Suggs will likely earn $30+ million annually. Suggs is viewed as a foundational piece in Orlando alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.
The Magic are a rising team in the East, and could potentially seriously challenge the elite contenders in the conference like the Bucks, perhaps as soon as this coming season. Orlando is looking to build on a 47-35 record it put together in 2023-24 when they also made the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Their 47-win total was also the best they’ve had since Dwight Howard and company went 52-30 in the 2010-11 campaign.
Last season, Suggs, who was selected by the Magic in the first round (fifth overall) in the 2021 NBA Draft, averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists through 75 games.
