Doc Rivers is currently the frontrunner to replace Adrian Griffin as the new Milwaukee Bucks head coach. Multiple reports have confirmed that the Bucks are already discussing the details of Rivers’ contract, and it truly feels like it’s only a matter of time before the former NBA champion coach is announced as Griffin’s successor.
If you ask ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, he firmly believes that there is no better option for Milwaukee right now.
Kendrick Perkins Wants Milwaukee Bucks to Call Doc Rivers
Speaking on Tuesday’s ESPN broadcast, Perkins made it abundantly clear that Rivers has his vote of confidence:
“If there’s any coach that they should go get — and I’m not being biased here — it should be Doc Rivers,” Big Perk declared. “Doc Rivers didn’t deserve to get fired from Philadelphia. When it comes to putting stars in a right position to be successful, Doc Rivers could do that. When it comes to gathering the troops to buy in to what he’s saying, Doc Rivers could do that.
“I really don’t see no other coach out there that can actually go in and fulfill this role right now other than Doc Rivers. … If I had to make a choice, dammit I’m calling Doc Rivers right now.” “

According to Big Perk, the only regret he holds here is the fact that he won’t be able to call a game with Rivers, who now appears to be on the brink of having his ESPN contract voided.
In case you forgot, Perkins is a one-time NBA champion. He won his ring as a part of the 2008 Boston Celtics squad. It was Rivers who coached that iconic team to the title that season, and it is clear that Big Perk still holds a lot of respect for his former coach.
As he made clear in his statement, though, the ex-NBA champ turned broadcaster isn’t being biased with his selection of Doc as the next Milwaukee head coach. Big Perk firmly believes that his (soon-to-be-ex?) ESPN colleague is the right man for the job.
