Earlier this season, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins conjured up his list of the Top 5 point guards in the Eastern Conference today. Much to the surprise of Milwaukee Bucks fans, Big Perk opted to omit seven-time All-NBA guard Damian Lillard from his list.
After Dame’s recent hot streak, however, Perkins has been made to eat his own words.
Kendrick Perkins Apologizes to Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard
In a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, Perkins decided to address his previous slander. The one-time NBA champion big man came out to offer a sincere apology to Lillard for overlooking his greatness:
“Before I said this list, I said my lists are like a revolving door,” said Perkins (h/t Jackson Stone of ClutchPoints). “Dame has been up and down. The Bucks have been struggling. My apologies, Dame. My apologies. I’m sorry.”
As a broadcaster and analyst, it’s Perkins’ job to say all sorts of things on air. It has been hit or miss for this man throughout his career as a sports anchor but you have to give him credit for owning up to his mistake here.
It takes a big man to accept when he is wrong, and this is exactly what Perkins has done. He’s even gone as far as apologizing to Lillard for his error.
To be fair to Big Perk, Dame has indeed had an up-and-down start to his Bucks career. However, after putting on a magnificent performance against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, Lillard reminded everyone that he’s still as elite as they come.
