The Sacramento Kings gave the Milwaukee Bucks a proper fight on Sunday night at the Fiserv Forum. In fact, not only did the game require an extra period to decide a winner, but it also needed some of Damian Lillard’s magic to close out the game.
The seven-time All-Star went full Dame Time with a 32-foot game-winner at the buzzer to lift Milwaukee to a 143-142 win in overtime. As far as unforgettable moments go, this has to be right up there with the best of them.
Damian Lillard Sounds Off on Milwaukee Bucks’ Crucial Win
After the game, Lillard had some high praise for the Kings and their ability to battle back against adversity. Sacramento just wouldn’t go away in this one, and they pushed the Bucks to the edge. Dame is just delighted that his team was able to power through:
“It means a lot because we are in the second night of a back to back,” he said, via Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “We had our opportunities to extend the lead but they’re really good team. They play fast. They give themselves a chance in every game. So these are the kinds of games where you don’t want to let them slip; it’s a home game, a quality win against a good team; second night of a back to back and we know it’s pretty much in the driver’s seat the whole game, so these are the ones you’ve got to have.
“You get to March and April when you look back and these are the games you’re like, man, we let one slip. … So this was a great one to have.”
Lillard took it upon himself to make sure that Sunday’s game wasn’t going to slip away. They were down two points with just 5.4 seconds remaining in overtime. The Bucks had one final possession to steal away the win, and that’s exactly what Dame did.
The rest, as they say, is history.
