It’s official. Damian Lillard will be back in the mix for the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday against the Chicago Bulls. This is after the seven-time All-Star missed the team’s last two games due to a lingering calf injury.
Lillard has recovered in time for Monday’s key matchup, but at the same time, it is clear that the Bucks will be erring on the side of caution with their superstar point guard.
Milwaukee Bucks to Monitor Damian Lillard’s Minutes
Speaking to reporters ahead of tip-off, it was Milwaukee head coach Adrian Griffin who revealed that Dame is going to be available for Monday’s showdown. The first-year shot-caller also hinted, however, that Lillard could be on some sort of minutes limit in his first game back:
“He’s made some really good progress over the last few days, so we’ll keep an eye on his minutes,” Griffin said, via Bucks beat reporter Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Obviously missing the last two games, just want to be cautious with him, but it’s great having him back in the rotation.”
This comes as no surprise at all. It’s a long season ahead and the last thing the Bucks want is for Lillard to reaggravate his calf injury.
However, the fact that he’s been cleared to play after just two games on the sidelines indicates that this is likely nothing more than a minor knock for the 33-year-old. After all, the Bucks would not have let him return so soon if this was anything serious.
Either way, Dame could see a cap on his playing time on Monday against the Bulls — unless of course, it ends up being a close game.
