It’s not easy trying to find a proper player comparison for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard. If you ask the seven-time All-Star himself, however, there is, apparently, one particular player that he tries to emulate in his game.
You will need to go way back to the mid-2000s to determine the highly controversial figure who Lillard surprisingly revealed to be his idol.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Reveals Unexpected Player Comparison
As it turns out, Lillard is a huge fan of former NBA All-Star point guard Gilbert Arenas. Dame was asked in an interview by Bally Sports Wisconsin about the player he tries to emmulate in his game, and the seven-time All-NBA guard had a straightforward response:
“All time, I would say Gilbert Arenas,” Lillard said.

Dame did not expound on the similarities of his game to Arenas but now that he’s mentioned it, you can see the parallelisms in the way these two all-time greats play, particularly in being one of the most dangerous scoring threats in their respective eras.
The one thing Lillard has steered clear of, however, is all the off-court drama. This is something that was pretty much part and parcel of Arenas’ 11-year NBA career, with controversy seemingly never too far away from the former Most Improved Player.
Make no mistake about it, though. Gilbert Arenas is one of the best to ever do it, and when it comes to his basketball, it’s no surprise at all that even the likes of Damian Lillard idolize this legend.
