You just knew that Damian Lillard’s divorce proceedings were going to be ugly when he filed for the same just days after his blockbuster trade to the Milwaukee Bucks. True enough, things now have taken a turn for the worse. So much so, that it’s already impacting Dame’s commitments to his new team.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Ordered to Appear in Court
Whitney Vasquez of Radar recently provided a significant update on Lillard’s court battle. Following news that his estranged wife, Kay’La Lillard, has filed for sole custody of their three children, the court is now reportedly ordering Dame to make a personal appearance at an Oregon courthouse:
“The documents obtained by RadarOnline.com reveal that the Milwaukee Bucks point guard must appear at the Clackamas County Circuit Courthouse in Oregon City, Oregon, on November 24 to spar over Kay’La’s demand of sole custody of their three children,” Vasquez wrote.
The issue here is that the Bucks are scheduled to host the Washington Wizards on that same evening. This only means that unless he is somehow able to get out of his mandatory court appearance, it is likely that Lillard will be forced to miss that game.
It is also worth noting that the Bucks will be coming off a road game against the Boston Celtics on November 22.
The report also indicates what Lillard should expect during the scheduled hearing:
“According to the filing, Damian has been ordered to appear at the 9 AM hearing, where he will discuss custody, a possible parenting plan, and paying Kay’La’s attorney fees.
“The purpose of the in-person battle will be imperative as the basketball star, 33, is expected to ‘show cause why the Court should not grant’ all of Kay’La’s demands, including ‘awarding mother sole custody of the children; establishing a parenting plan for Father that is in the best interest of the children; Requiring Father to pay Mother her reasonable attorney fees and costs in this action pursuant to ORS 107.445; and awarding any other relief that the Court deems just and equitable,'” Vasquez wrote.
The fact that his appearance is scheduled at 9 AM means that he could actually make the two-hour flight back to Milwaukee in time for the Wizards game. That would not be ideal, though, to say the least.
