We all knew coming in that Damian Lillard would have to make some massive adjustments in his game when he joined the Milwaukee Bucks. After all, the seven-time All-Star had not had a chance to play alongside a superstar of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s caliber in the past.
In all fairness, the same can be said about Antetokounmpo as well. However, considering how it’s Dame who came in as the new guy on the team, there’s no denying that most of the adjustments are going to come from his end — regardless of what Giannis and the rest of the team might say.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Vocal on Damian Lillard’s Lack of Aggression

Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin knows what Lillard is doing. In fact, the rookie shot-caller is appreciative of Dame taking a bit of a step back as he acclimatizes himself alongside Giannis and his new teammates. At the same time, however, Coach Griff is also calling on Lillard to be more aggressive:
“I think his intentions are great,” Griffin said of Lillard, via Dan Devine of Yahoo Sports. “He’s trying to be a great teammate. He’s trying to make the right reads. But at the same time, you know, him shooting the ball is what we need. Him being aggressive. He’s done that at times, and I think at times you see that he’s a little hesitant, and he doesn’t — I mean, I don’t want to put words in his mouth — but he’s almost too unselfish at times. But we just need him to be Dame, you know? Be who you are. That’s good enough. That’s more than enough for us.”

The Bucks gave up a whole lot to land Damian Lillard because they knew exactly what they were getting. It’s all well and good that the 33-year-old is being prudent in terms of not wanting to step on anyone’s toes, but at the same time, as we’ve heard so many times in the past, Milwaukee needs Dame to be Dame.
