Fellow Milwaukee Bucks fans may feel worried that the team didn’t do enough to provide the best team possible to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. It’s easy to think of this being the case when you see other teams in the East pulling off moves to challenge the Boston Celtics for the right to represent the Conference in the Finals.
While basketball is a game that can be heavily influenced by its stars, the Bucks having the Greek Freak and Dame doesn’t instantly equate to a title. The supporting cast must also step up and provide some much-needed relief to their star duo.
This is where a player of Brook Lopez’s caliber comes in. He’s successfully extended his career by developing a three-point shot and slotting himself as a stretch big. He was a big part of Milwaukee’s 2021 title run, and he will continue to do so after signing an extension with the team.
However, one analyst has a challenge for the 36-year-old center if he’ll become a key cog for another unlikely championship run.
Analyst challenges Brook Lopez to change his attitude to help the Milwaukee Bucks win
Brew Hoops’ Jack Trehearne understands that Brook Lopez is a terrific player who can contribute to the squad when needed. However, he questions whether the persona he has adapted on the court is necessary for the Bucks to win a title:
I want to declare that these are anecdotal observations, and I could be completely wrong. I’m obviously just an outsider watching the games, not with the players and coaches in the locker room. With that said, whether it was because he was asked to clean up more mess due to the Jrue-Dame trade, Brook sometimes looked as if his head wasn’t always in it from an effort standpoint last season. In addition, even though the former Stanford Cardinal has famously never committed a foul in his career, there was probably more complaining to the refs than in previous years.
He admitted that Lopez is a great barometer for the Bucks, and his form will dictate if the team will play well or struggle throughout the game. Trehearne calls for him to straighten up and focus on helping the team win without causing too much fuss.
