The Milwaukee Bucks does not need to say that Bobby Portis is with them in spirits because the big man is indeed with them although not in the court.
The Bucks visited Houston Rockets’ Toyota Center (and lost) missing the big man who was suspended for 25 games due to anti-drug policy violation.
However, instead of having him mope about the situation and be left alone in Wisconsin, the team decided to have him on the road, a move that head coach Doc Rivers said is good not just for Portis but also for the whole team.
“I think it’s good for Bobby. It’s probably good for our guys as well. He’s on our team and we want him to stay like, part of our team,” Rivers said.
He also expressed solidarity with Portis for the challenge he’s facing, referencing the time he was in a similar situation. He called Portis’ adversity ‘brutal.’
“We were talking with a couple of players today, I don’t know how hard that is. It’s gotta be brutal. I’ve been injured and couldn’t play with the team, but I’ve never been healthy — well, I did get suspended once but that was a short-term suspension — but the amount of games, that’s rough.”

Portis’ long absence is a huge blow for the Bucks.
Just when they thought they could charge towards the end of regular season with better energy, to build consistency, the suspension happened.
The team decided to rest Giannis Antetokounmpo for two weeks before the All-Star break. Damian Lillard got ample rest, too, by sitting out the win versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.
All that went to waste by a little because they will not have their main rotation guy.
Portis has missed four games now and he will need 21 more. Will he be able to play some regular season games?
There will be four games left before the team hit the postseason. That should be enough for him to get acclimated to the system the team is trying to build right now.
He’s been with them since 2020 and he still joins the team and practices so there should not have much of a problem.
