The Milwaukee Bucks will be one of the most talked about teams in the NBA this offseason. As has become the norm, the national media and fans of opposing fanbases will create imagined trade proposals involving Milwaukee’s two-time NBA MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Despite the fact that the Greek Freak has consistently reaffirmed his loyalty to the Bucks through his words and actions (such as signing numerous contract extensions), there are many, even among the Milwaukee faithful, who believe that a third-straight first round exit from the NBA Playoffs will be enough to convince the nine-time All-Star to request a trade.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Bobby Portis Says Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants to Be a One-Team Player

While Giannis has made some cryptic posts on social media that seem to indicate that he will not request a trade this offseason, the fact of the matter is that fans and the media will continue to speculate until he explicitly says what his intentions are.
In an effort to get inside his thought process, “Run It Back” asked one of his teammates, Bobby Portis, what he believed Giannis would do this summer.
“Giannis bleeds green.”

“I just think, man, that Giannis bleeds green,” Portis said, referencing the green color of Milwaukee’s jerseys. “I think he bleeds green, I think he bleeds loyalty, I think he bleeds, you know, wanting that Tim Duncan, Kobe, Steph Curry type career where you play for only one franchise.
“Obviously, it sounds really, really good that Giannis leaves and goes to another team. But like, realistically, if you traded for him… you got to trade your whole team. If you do make a move, you might be in the same position that the Bucks are in.”
Portis points out that playing for one team for his whole career is a goal of Giannis’. However, he also points out a not-so-often-talked-about truth that, should he demand a trade, the two-time MVP might find himself in a very similar position as the one he currently faces with Milwaukee.
Due to his high salary, and the high salary of Damian Lillard, the Bucks simply do not have the cap space to sign premium free agents. This offseason they will have $14.1 million from the mid-level exception that they can spread around to sign multiple players, but they cannot offer big money to any other notable free agents.
This very well could be the reality that any team that potentially trades for Giannis would face as well. Furthermore, that team would have to give up multiple first round draft picks to get him, mortgaging their future as well.
Giannis, of course, is smart enough to realize this and would likely want to continue building with the Bucks than elsewhere.
