For the first time since the 2019-20 season, the Milwaukee Bucks will have a participant in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. On Thursday, Milwaukee guard starting guard Andre Jackson Jr. declared his intent to participate in this year’s contest. Jackson Jr. will become the fifth Bucks player in franchise history to participate and the first since his teammate Pat Connaughton in 2020.

A high flyer and athletic two-way guard during his tenure with the juggernaut UConn Huskies for three seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks selected Jackson Jr. in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft. With Jackson eying the first NBA Dunk Contest victory in Bucks history, fans flooded social media excitedly.

    According to Shams Charania:

Milwaukee Bucks forward Andre Jackson Jr. has committed to the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend, sources tell ESPN. Jackson, a 2023 champion at UConn, has emerged as a Bucks starter in his second season and joins Stephon Castle and Matas Buzelis so far in dunk contest.

The Milwaukee Bucks will have a chance to bring home the 2025 NBA Dunk Contest title with the addition of guard Andre Jackson Jr. to the field. Jackson Jr., a second-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, averages 3.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 39 games this season. Jackson Jr. has seen an uptick in playing time, playing 17.3 minutes per game compared to 10.0 minutes per game as a rookie.

Jackson will join his former college teammate Stephon Castle in the showcase. Jackson won an NCAA national title with the UConn Huskies during his final season, averaging 6.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. The following season, Castle’s lone with UConn, the Huskies again won a national title, with the freshman scoring 11.1 points per game. The addition of Jackson Jr. to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest field has Milwaukee Bucks fans eager for him to display his dunking prowess.

Jackson Jr. Becomes Fifth Bucks Player To Join Slam Dunk Contest

Milwaukee Bucks starting guard Andre Jackson Jr. will become the fifth player in franchise history to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. In 2020, Pat Connaughton participated but lost to Derrick Jones Jr. of the Miami Heat. Franchise superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo participated in 2015 but also failed to win. Jackson Jr. becomes the second Bucks player from UConn to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, with Ray Allen partaking in the event in 1997. Meanwhile, Paul Pressey competed in 1986. Like Allen, Connaughton, and Antetokounmpo, Pressey did not win:
