The Milwaukee Bucks loss to the Miami Heat in just five games in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs was just the start of a disappointing offseason for the team. After their improbable elimination, head coach Mike Budenholzer was fired. Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of three finalists for the NBA MVP Award, finished third in the voting behind Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic. Bobby Portis did not win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award, losing to former Bucks guard and Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon. Brook Lopez was snubbed for the Defensive Player of the Year Award as well.
Good news came recently, though, as both Lopez and Jrue Holiday were named All NBA Defense First Team. Giannis’ absence on both the first and second defensive teams led to his posting on social media that he will no longer tolerate the disrespect. That being said, Giannis did receive an incredible honor on Wednesday evening as he was named All NBA First Team.

Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Was a Unanimous Selection for the All NBA First Team

As seen in the graphic above, Giannis received all 100 votes for the All NBA First Team. This is the fifth year in a row that he has been a unanimous selection. According to ESPN, he is the only player in the last 50 years to be unanimously named All NBA First Team in five consecutive seasons:
Giannis Antetokounmpo was the only player to be unanimous 1st-Team All-NBA this season.

Take a moment to think about how special this is. LeBron James did not receive five consecutive unanimous selections at any point in his illustrious career. Michael Jordan never was a unanimous selection five years in a row. Larry Bird. Magic Johnson. Hakeem Olajuwon. Kevin Durant. Shaq. None of these all-time greats achieved this feat.
The NBA World Reacts to Giannis’ All NBA First Team Selection

As one might imagine, fans from all over the NBA had reactions to Giannis’ latest achievement:
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a unanimous First Team All-NBA selection for the FIFTH straight season.
No other player in NBA history has ever done it more than three times in a row.
