The Milwaukee Bucks have found their replacement for head coach Mike Budenholzer, who was fired following the team’s 4-1 loss to the Miami Heat in the opening round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Per Sham Charania of The Athletic, the Bucks are working out the financial terms of a contract that will make Toronto Raptors assistant coach Adrian Griffin the next head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Reportedly Wanted Adrian Griffin as the Next Head Coach of the Milwaukee Bucks

A few days ago, there was a report that Giannis Antetokounmpo wanted Adrian Griffin to be the team’s next head coach. If that is the case, then the two-time MVP certainly got his man.
Griffin played in the NBA for 10 seasons with the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Seattle Supersonics, and Chicago Bulls. Following his playing career, he started coach with the Milwaukee Bucks, whom he served with as an assistant from 2008-2010. Scott Skiles was the Bucks’ coach during this time.
From 2010-2015, Griffin was an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls. Vinny Del Negro was their head coach in 2010, but Tom Thibodeau retained Griffin when he took over in 2011. In 2015, Griffin reunited with Scott Skiles, who was hired as the head coach of the Orlando Magic. Griffin stayed with the Magic until 2016.
After his time with the Magic came to an end, Griffin was hired by Billy Donovan to be on his staff with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He spent two seasons with the Thunder before being hired by Nick Nurse to join his staff with the Toronto Raptors.
Griffin is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in leadership studies from Seton Hall.
What Is Next for the Milwaukee Bucks?

Now that a new head coach has been found, the focus of the organization is going to be continuing to push for NBA Championships while their window is still open. Brook Lopez, a Defensive Player of the Year finalist and First Team All NBA Defense, is a free agent, but could be brought back. Khris Middleton has a $40 million player option for next season, though he could also be brought back on a new contract.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has two more years remaining (plus a player option) on the super max contract that he signed with the Bucks a few years ago. While he has consistently stated his desire to play in Milwaukee for his entire career, the Bucks’ window may not be open as wide as it is now while the two-time MVP is still in his prime.
There may be a new head coach on the bench, but the expectations are still the same: Championship or bust.
