The Milwaukee Bucks’ opponent in the semifinals of the 2024 NBA Cup is finally known. That’s after the Atlanta Hawks stunned the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night via a 108-100 score.
The Bucks already took care of their business in the quarterfinals on Tuesday by beating the Orlando Magic at Fiserv Forum, 114-109, to advance to the semis.
The Hawks leaned on the big performances of De’Andre Hunter, Trae Young and Jalen Johnson to take down the Knicks. Hunter came off the bench and scored 24 points to lead all Atlanta scorers, while Young and Johnson added 22 and 21 points, respectively.
Now, they will be on a mission to beat the Bucks on Saturday in Las Vegas. That will be the second meeting in the 2024-25 NBA season between the Bucks and the Hawks, who first met on Dec. 4 at Fiserv Forum. In that game, Atlanta came away with a 119-104 victory, thanks in large part to Johnson’s 23 points and Hunter’s 20 points. Young, meanwhile, had 17 points in the win over Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Bucks are looking good heading into the 2024 NBA Cup semis
But the Bucks have looked terrific in their last two games, with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the charge. In the win over Orlando, the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player generated a total of 37 points on 15-for-24 shooting from the field. Antetokounmpo had 31 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Atlanta earlier this month.
The winner of the matchup between the Bucks and the Hawks will advance to the 2024 NBA Cup Finals along with the victor of the other semis showdown between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets.
