The Milwaukee Brewers have a type. They love versatile players who possess the ability to get on base and run. Their most recent signing of a 25 year old switch hitting Venezuelan infielder in Yonny Hernandez is a text book copy of those characteristics.
MLB Insider Robert Murray was the first to report the news of this signing.
Yonny Hernandez has signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers that includes an invitation to big league camp.
Yonny Hernandez has marginal experience in the big leagues over each of the past three seasons. He has spent time with the Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Los Angeles Dodgers, but has just 69 games and 221 plate appearances worth of MLB experience.
In the minor leagues Yonny Hernandez has played all over the infield. As hinted at before he annually puts up high on base percentage numbers as well as stolen bases. He does not possess a great ability to slug the ball, but his patient and contact oriented approach has done him well so far throughout his young career.

As a member of the Brewers he will have the ability to showcase his skills at the big league level during spring training. If he excels Milwaukee would have to add him to their 40-man roster before he could appear in any regular season games for the Brew Crew. He does come with one minor league option remaining.
These types of signings are typical throughout the course of the winter. Yonny Hernandez has been on the fringe of several big league rosters each of the past three seasons and now will get an opportunity with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers type is versatile Punch n Judy types that have zero power with batting averages that hoover around the Mendoza line.
