Milwaukee Brewers win streak snapped at nine games by their division rival Chicago Cubs.
This game was a pitchers duel between Corbin Burnes and Justin Steele that also featured a pair of nice defensive plays from Brewers second baseman Brice Turang. Additionally, not that either one of these pitchers needed any extra help, the Chicago wind was blowing in and that had an impact on this game.
Both pitchers ended up throwing over 100 pitches in this game. Justin Steele nearly had an early exit after a Victor Caratini 100.2 MPH liner hit him in the leg, but he managed to grit out six scoreless innings while striking out eight. Corbin Burnes’ only blemish came in the first inning in which a hit batter ended up scoring and being the deciding run.
Milwaukee had a lot of chances to score early on in this game. Over the first three innings they put two runners on base each time, but went 0-5 with runners in scoring position. Chicago had on and off traffic throughout most of the night but finished 0-7 with runners in scoring position. Their only run came on a RBI ground out from Cody Bellinger.
Game three between the Brewers and Cubs will be on Wednesday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 1:20 PM CT in which Brandon Woodruff will match up against Kyle Hendricks. Milwaukee’s division lead is currently at four games and they lead the season series five games to four.
