After losing the first two games of their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, William Contreras and the Milwaukee Brewers stormed back and won the last two legs, including Thursday’s 6-4 victory over the National League West division powerhouse.
Contreras had a big game in the series finale, as he went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. His solo home run in the first inning extended the Brewers’ lead to three runs and helped establish the tone of the contest in favor of Milwaukee.
After the game, Contreras acknowledged the greatness of the Dodgers team but he also reminded everyone that the Brewers are not too shabby either.
Via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN):
“Everyone knows the Dodgers are a good team,” Contreras said through a translator. “We know we are as well.”
Tobias Myers started the game for Milwaukee, allowing two earned runs (four runs overall) on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout through 5.2 innings of work on the mound. Bryan Hudson got the win after tossing two scoreless innings, while Devin Williams shut the door again on the Dodgers with another save, picking up two strikeouts with no hits allowed in the ninth inning.
With the Brewers’ victory, they improved their record to 69-52 and now have a nine-game lead atop the National League Central division. The Cincinnati Reds and the fading St. Louis Cardinals both own identical 60-61 records. Moreover, Milwaukee is now just half a game behind the Dodgers for the No. 2 seed in the National League.
Coming up next for Contreras and the Brewers is another three-game set at home, as they kick off a series against the Cleveland Guardians this Friday.
