Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras has arguably been the teams MVP this season. He has been exceptional both behind the dish and at the plate. Recently he sat down with Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and his future with the team was one topic discussed.

William Contreras is open to talking about a contract extension with the Milwaukee Brewers.
25 year old William Contreras is enjoying his first season as a member of the Brewers. He was acquired via trade during the off-season and contract wise he will not reach arbitration until 2025. This means he is already under team control until 2028.
According to Curt Hogg’s recent article (subscription required) he would be open to talking about a contract extension to remain in Milwaukee longer. However he also noted that the Brewers have not approached this idea with him.
There is no rush on the Brewers end to lock up William Contreras past 2028. Teams that lock up young players tend to wait until they are nearing arbitration in which at that point they can buy out those years and often times beyond that.
If he can put together another solid season in 2024 then the timing may be more appropriate to start talking about a contract extension.
