Last week the Milwaukee Brewers traded starting pitcher Aaron Civale to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for 1B/DH Andrew Vaughn. While both of these players are on the 40-man roster for their new teams, Vaughn was sent to Triple-A upon coming to the Brew Crew. As a result, Milwaukee’s minor league first base depth got too crowded.
Evaluating the Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A first base depth

In Nashville, the Sounds have five players who can be regularly used at first base. Those guys are Ernesto Martinez Jr, Andrew Vaughn, Bobby Dalbec, Tyler Black, and Wes Clarke.
Of this group, Martinez is strictly a first baseman, Vaughn is capable of playing the outfield but hasn’t done so in three years, Dalbec is used in the outfield often, Black’s secondary position is third base, and Clarke is capable of catching as well.
Wes Clarke reportedly has been traded

According to Francys Romero, the Brewers have traded Clarke to the Houston Astros. Clarke has been a big power bat over the past two seasons, hitting 26 home runs in 2023, 21 in 2024, and six this year.

So far, there has been no word on the Brewers return for Clarke and the team has not yet confirmed this transaction. Clarke’s MiLB transaction page reads as “transferred to the development list” as of June 17.
If Clarke has indeed been traded, minor league deals like this often involve an exchange of cash, but with Clarke’s power pedigree and potential to be a big leaguer, perhaps Milwaukee will get a prospect in return.
