It has taken months, but the Milwaukee Brewers are finally starting to settle into what is proving to be a reliable starting rotation. Even before the season began, Brandon Woodruff was ruled out for the start of the year as he recovered from shoulder surgery. He still has yet to make his season debut, but is getting close after ankle tendonitis set him back.
Aaron Ashby and DL Hall, both left-handed pitchers, were injured in spring training and only recently returned to the Major League club. Nestor Cortes will still be out for a while, probably until after the All-Star break, but Jose Quintana is returning to start the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
With Freddy Peralta, Chad Patrick, Aaron Civale, Priester, and Quintana (along with Logan Henderson, who is currently with Triple-A Nashville) healthy, the Brewers finally have a reliable five-man rotation. But should they decide their depth is not enough, or if someone else gets injured, one of their former fan-favorites could be a free agent again as soon as Sunday.
Former Milwaukee Brewers Fan Favorite Wade Miley Is Expected to Opt Out of His Contract with the Cincinnati Reds

Former Brewers pitcher Wade Miley is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He was with the Brewers in 2024, but pitched in only two games before going down with an injury. In 2023, though, he was 9-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 23 starts. Back in 2018, his first stint with Milwaukee, Miley was 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 16 starts.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the former Brewers pitcher is expected to opt out of his current minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds:
“The veteran signed a minor league deal back in January that granted him a uniform opt out opportunity on June 1, as it does for all Article XX(B) free agents. According to Wittenmyer, the organization anticipates that Miley will exercise that opt-out opportunity if Cincinnati declines to add him to their 40-man roster before then.”
And Brewers fans would love to have him back.
Fans Want the Milwaukee Brewers to Sign Wade Miley

Prior to the start of the 2025 season, there were reports that the Brewers and Miley had mutual interest in a reunion. Even Miley said his preferred 2025 team would be the one that wore “navy blue.”
Unfortunately, they were unable to come to an agreement and he signed with the Reds. However, since he has not been added to the 40-man roster, he can opt out of his deal and enter free agency again.
Brewers fans would like to see Milwaukee get him:
