Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Wade Miley had a previously untold story revealed by fellow pitcher Corbin Burnes today. When taking questions from the media ahead of the Brewers season opener tomorrow, Burnes was asked to share his favorite Wade Miley story. His answer was surprising.

Burnes says his favorite Wade Miley story is “when Stephen Vogt saved [Miley’s] life a couple years ago.” The 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner said that Miley “was choking on something in the clubhouse, and Vogt got up and gave him the Heimlich and saved his life.” Miley, who spent a season with the Brewers as a 2018 free agent signing, was “choking and he said he ran out of the clubhouse – or ran out of the kitchen, ran back in, and Vogter grabbed him and gave him the Heimlich.”

Fortunately for Miley, Vogt was around the clubhouse despite spending much of the 2018 season injured. According to Burnes, on “the next road trip Wade bought [Vogt] a full nurse’s costume to wear and Vogt ate it up. He loved it. He was a lifesaver and now he got to wear that doctor, nurse suit around everywhere.”

Miley, who rejoined the Brewers as a free agent this offseason after stints with the Astros, Reds, and Cubs, later shared the story as he recalled it. As it turns out, the incident started because Miley “went in a little hot on a hamburger.”

“I was sitting in the kitchen; I had a burger,” Miley recalled. “I took two bites because I was going to get something out of my locker. I took two quick bites and it hung up [in my throat].” Miley then went back into the kitchen where “Vogter just came over and gave me the Heimlich. I live here to tell about it.”
The 38-year-old mentioned that he has “a little throat issue, so it kind of happens a little bit more than I would like it to.” This incident, however, was “the first time [Miley] needed the Heimlich to get it [done].”
