The 2023 Milwaukee Brewers home run celebration is currently placing a cheese head on top of the player who hit the long ball and having them go through the dugout with it on. This has not only quickly gained popularity among the players but the fans and remainder of the league as well. On Friday April 28, the Brewers took the cheese head theme to another level by unveiling a mid-inning race titled “Beat The Cheese”.
New thing at AmFam Field: Beat The Cheese. It’s like The Freeze in Atlanta, only in this version, The Cheese gets the head start. Discuss. pic.twitter.com/eOwh5i3KUL

The Brewers appear to have a new thing: A fan races someone dressed up as a block of cheese. It’s sort of an inverse of The Freeze. Beat The Cheese, it is called. pic.twitter.com/t0hx3gqDhd

What is the Milwaukee Brewers mid-inning race called “Beat The Cheese”
As mentioned in Adam McCalvy and Curt Hogg’s reporting, beat the cheese appears to be a similar version of a well known Atlanta Braves mid-inning promotion titled “beat the freeze”. In Atlanta the freeze allows a fan to get a massive head start and races him to the finish. During the cheeses’ debut, “the cheese” got a head start in the race.
In its debut, the cheese fell behind despite starting with the lead. Unfortunately the fan racing the block of cheese fell while showboating to the crowd. This allowed the cheese to secure its first victory.

It’s unclear if the Milwaukee Brewers intend to continue with this promotion titled “beat the cheese” or not. The team already has the famous racing sausage race, but this mid-inning competition has a lot of promise to stick around.
