In the Milwaukee Brewers farm system there are a lot of exciting prospects that are reaching the higher ranks of the minor leagues. Jackson Chourio headlines this group, but Sal Frelick, Jeferson Quero, and Jacob Misiorowski are all in a second tier close behind him.
Not mentioned above is the Brewers fifth ranked prospect Tyler Black. He was the 33rd overall selection by Milwaukee in 2021 and struggled with injuries a season ago. This year his prospect stock is surging and his name should be included among the Crews top prospects to be excited about.
In Double-A this year Tyler Black has a .288/.429/.533 slash line with 13 home runs. Once on base he is a stolen base machine for he has swiped 45 bases on the season. It seems inevitable that he will receive a promotion at some point this season, but recently some MLB prospect experts named him as a trade candidate.
Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Black was named as a potential trade candidate ahead of this year’s trade deadline.
With how well Tyler Black has performed this year one could argue that he should be untouchable at the trade deadline. MLB prospect experts Jim Callis and Sam Dykstra took a different approach in that he could be flipped to help Milwaukee go all in this year for Black’s trade value has never been higher.
How big of a swing does Milwaukee want to take in its hunt for a National League Central crown? If it’s a relatively big one, perhaps the club considers moving Black at a time when his stock has never been higher. The 33rd overall pick in the ’21 Draft, Black has long been considered a plus hitter and has backed that up with a .282 average and .427 OBP this season. He’s proved to be a menace on the basepaths, too, with a Double-A-best 42 steals. The glove is more of a question, but he’s moved around plenty in the pros.
As mentioned above Tyler Black was a high draft pick by the Brewers in 2022. It seems unlikely that they would part ways with a polished college bat who is excelling in his first healthy minor league season. It’ll be interesting to see what GM Matt Arnold does over the next few weeks.
