Milwaukee Brewers: Tyler Black Is the Latest Player to Go Down with Injury at 2025 Spring Training

The Milwaukee Brewers have begun Spring Training games, which has given fans some glimpses at the young prospects and other players that are vying for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Unfortunately, however, the team is already dealing with injuries to various players, which has kept them out of games.

Additionally, stars Christian Yelich and Brandon Woodruff are still working their way back from their individual injuries. Yelich had back surgery that cut his 2024 season short and Woodruff is recovering from shoulder surgery that cost him all of last year.

More recently, Gold Glove finalist Blake Perkins suffered a fractured leg when he fouled a ball off of his shin during batting practice. Promising reliever JB Bukauskas has a lat injury that could require surgery, though he and the team are looking for a second opinion.

According to Brewers insider Adam McCalvy, Milwaukee prospect Tyler Black, who made his Major League debut last season, has not appeared in Spring Training games yet due to back stiffness:

Black, a left-handed hitter, hit .204/.316/.245 in 18 games with the Brewers last season. However, while playing with Triple-A Nashville, he hit .258/.375/.429 with 14 home runs, 67 RBI, and 20 stolen bases.

While Black is currently listed as a first baseman/designated hitter, the fact of the matter is that he has experience all over the diamond. In fact, Brewers manager Pat Murphy recently named him as a player they were looking forward to trying out at third base.

In addition to first and third, Black has played center field in the minors.

Fortunately, it does not sound like his back injury is serious and that Milwaukee is just being cautious with him. It should not be long until he starts playing Cactus League games.
