Luis Urias sustained a hamstring injury on opening day this year. His initial injury timeline was estimated at 6-8 weeks, but he was placed on the 10-day IL to begin with. Today, the Milwaukee Brewers transferred him to the 60-day IL. This move freed up a spot on the 40-man roster.
In a corresponding move, the Brewers have claimed RHP JB Bukauskas from Seattle as reported by Brewers beat writer Todd Roasiak. Bukauskas has been working out of the bullpen in his appearances in the majors. The 2017 first round pick first debuted in the big leagues in 2021 but has mostly struggled at the highest level of pro ball. He will be sent to AAA Nashville and will serve as organizational depth for the time being.
How have the Milwaukee Brewers fared without Luis Urias?
Luis Urias has appeared in only one game and the offense has been impressive since then. His exact role entering the 2023 was unknown, but he did start opening day at third base. He was also expected to see playing time at second base as well.
In his absence, free agent signing Brian Anderson has been impressive both at the plate as well as defensively in which he is playing third base and right field. Rookie Brice Turang has also played quite well at second base. Hopefully they can continue to perform well while Urias rehabs his hamstring.
