The Milwaukee Brewers are keen on shaking things up for the next season as they look forward to adding a few key pieces to their team. After an early exit from the playoffs, it’s time for the Brewers to build their roster if they want to win. Devin Williams is reportedly said to be on the trade block, but the Brew-Crew has plenty of other options when it comes to acquiring players.
It turns out that veteran slugger Paul Goldschmidt is one of the players who would be a perfect fit for the Brew Crew. Goldschmidt’s stint with the St. Louis Cardinals seems to be coming to an end. The slugger is a free agent, and a handful of teams will look forward to pursuing the star.
Goldschmidt is almost at the end of his career. At 37 years old, not many teams would consider going all in for a slugger. Most teams would look to fill their spot with younger prospects. On the other hand, only a team that needs a first baseman would look toward Goldschmidt. There are plenty of first basemen available, including Anthony Rizzo, Christian Walker, Pete Alonso, and more.
Why Will Paul Goldschmidt Be The Right Fit For The Milwaukee Brewers?
Due to his declining market, Paul Goldschmidt will be the perfect fit for the Milwaukee Brewers. The fact that not many teams are ready to sing a 37-year-old player will give the Brewers an advantage.
The Brewers will look to secure a short-term contract with Goldschmidt with a minimum salary. With more than 15 free agent first basemen available, Milwaukee can bargain their way to get Goldschmidt. At the same time, they need a player like Goldschmidt at the plate.
Despite his age, the veteran smashed 22 home runs last season. He recorded 65 RBIs and drove in 70 runs for the Cardinals. The Milwaukee Brewers can also use Goldschmidt as a designated hitter if necessary. The franchise has yet to make a move on proposing a deal, but Zachary Rotman from Fansided feels this could be a great match.
Pat Murphy will try to make it past the Wild Card round this time, and players like Goldschmidt can be of great use. The slugger could share his experience with the younger stars and help the team perform in tough situations. The most important part is that Goldschmidt stays healthy. A one-year contract or two at the most will be a perfect deal for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The team can secure a deal in many ways. They could also use the money they get from Williams if they decide to trade him.
