The Milwaukee Brewers are in position to be buyers at this year’s trade deadline. Starting pitching is one area where they will be looking to improve upon, but one looming question is how much will they be willing to spend in order to upgrade. Recently a MLB Insider provided his thoughts on the team’s approach and also had a strong opinion regarding what this year’s team deserves.
MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal shed some light on the Milwaukee Brewers 2024 trade deadline approach.
In an article from The Athletic that was published by Will Sammon, Patrick Mooney, and Ken Rosenthal the presumed approach that the Milwaukee Brewers will take at the 2024 deadline was revealed. It also touched on how rival teams are interested in their young outfielders, but that a deal involving top prospects or controllable outfielders seems unlikely given the high value the organization places on such players.
The Milwaukee Brewers, leading their division with the National League’s third-best record despite needing pitching help, don’t seem inclined to fix that hole through big spending or by trading top prospects at the deadline, according to people familiar with the club’s thinking.
Rival evaluators like the Brewers’ surplus of young outfielders, which could conceivably be tapped into in order to make deals, but Milwaukee puts a high value on such depth.

Ken Rosenthal has a strong opinion regarding the Milwaukee Brewers trade deadline approach.
On Foul Territory TV Ken Rosenthal was asked by former Brewers catcher Erik Kratz why Milwaukee can’t be different this year and sway from their normal safe approach at the trade deadline. His response revolved around acknowledging that “this is the way Milwaukee typically does it (doesn’t make splashy moves)” but he countered by saying that with the way this year’s team has overcome losing Craig Counsell and Corbin Burnes while also winning with a reduced payroll that they deserve to be reinforced.
Ken Rosenthal didn’t say that the Brewers WILL make more splashy additions at the trade deadline than in years past, but he did say this squad deserves to be reinforced after accomplishing everything they have so far this season.

When is the MLB trade deadline?
This year the MLB trade deadline is July 30. Trades don’t typically start taking place until after the All-Star break and really ramp up as the deadline gets closer. It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee elects to spend more than normal at this year’s trade deadline or if they will continue making smaller and safer trades without sacrificing highly valued prospects who could be viewed as pieces to their future.
