Milwaukee Brewers rookie starting pitcher Tobias Myers was pulled from Sunday’s series finale game against the Washington Nationals after throwing 64 pitches and giving up just one earned run. The bullpen was then immediately tagged with three earned runs and the Brewers ended up losing by a score of 4-3. Post game manager Pat Murphy explained why he removed Myers from the game.
Tobias Myers gave up one earned run in the first inning against the Washington Nationals
A first inning solo home run from Luis Garcia Jr was the only scoring that occurred while Tobias Myers was pitching. He otherwise covered five innings, gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out two. His pitch count at the end of the day was only 64 pitches and he threw 41 of them for strikes.
Why did Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy remove Tobias Myers after a 64 pitch outing?
After the game Pat Murphy listed a few factors as to why he removed Myers from the game. Heat and humidity were one of them, facing the lineup a third time was another, and he lastly mentioned that he had a full bullpen to use in which Devin Williams needed to pitch. Williams last appearance was on July 28 and the Brewers had an off day scheduled following Sunday’s game.

Milwaukee Brewers fans react to the reasons why Pat Murphy pulled Tobias Myers.
A major reason why we’ve had a good bullpen is because if Megill and Hudson ……neither one of them was out there today……I like Hoby but he hasn’t been great…he also has reverse splits this season…….strange move.

This is the managerial equivalent of a quarterback deciding where he’s going with the ball before reading the defense or the ball is snapped.

1) Guess the heat/humidity only affects the Brewers. Looks like the Nats pitcher was able to get through 6 and 87 pitches. Were you watching how Myers was pitching?
2) Hey Murphy, why don’t you “own” that decision. It’s ultimately your call.
3) Your Honeymoon is over Murphy.

The operative word here is “consensus.” We’re voting on these decisions now? “Let’s take a poll – should Tobias go out there for the next inning?” Make a decision as the leader of the team. This “consensus” crap is a cop out. Fact – analytics told you to remove him.
