A few days ago the Milwaukee Brewers signed veteran pitcher Julio Teheran to a MLB contract. This decision came after he opted out of his minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.
For the Brewers they desperately needed to address gaps in their starting pitcher rotation. They currently have Brandon Woodruff, Wade Miley, Eric Lauer, and Aaron Ashby all on the injured list. The goal of this signing is for Julio Teheran to eat up some innings during this injury filled stretch. At best the former All-Star could carve out a long term role with the Brewers, but for now they are just looking for a healthy and experienced arm to round out their starting rotation.
Contract wise, the Brewers did have to go above the league minimum in order to sign Julio Teheran.
After passing his physical, Julio Teheran’s contract details with the Milwaukee Brewers were announced.

According to Jon Heyman, Julio Teheran’s contract with the Milwaukee Brewers is worth $1.5 million. He also could make an additional $1.0 million in incentives. Heyman also indicated that Teheran had offers from multiple teams, but elected to sign the Brew Crew.
This contract is a bit surprising in the fact that prior to this signing he hadn’t pitched in a major league game since 2021. However, as indicated by Jon Heyman, starting pitchers are a need among teams right now and the Brewers had to offer an incentivizing deal in order to secure him.
Hopefully Julio Teheran is able to make the most out of his opportunities with the Milwaukee Brewers.
