The Milwaukee Brewers are currently on top of the National League Central division. Aside from the Brewers the Pittsburgh Pirates are the only other team above .500. Over the weekend the Pirates swept the St. Louis Cardinals. This pushed the Red Birds record to 10 games below .500. Their 25-35 record is currently the worst in the National League.
Through the first two months of the season there has been a lot of turmoil in St. Louis. The starting pitching staff struggled early on and Willson Contreras was temporarily relieved of his catching duties. Overall this team that is full of star players is severely under performing.
After being swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates Adam Wainwright gave his thoughts on the team’s performance to date.
Milwaukee Brewers division rival St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright describes the team as “pissed” about performance so far.
Adam Wainwright was asked if there was a level on the dial below “panic” that described the feeling within the team about being in last place.
“I don’t think ‘concerned’ is the right word. I think ‘pissed’ is the right word. I think everyone is pissed at a lot of different things. We come in here and we look around and we’re like, ‘What the heck?’ Some things can’t be explained. You’ve just got to go and perform.”
“No one is panicking, and that’s a good thing. More urgency wouldn’t hurt.”
There is a lot of season left and the National League Central is one of the weakest in baseball this year. It will be interesting to see how this season plays out for the Cardinals.
