The Milwaukee Brewers are 9-13 so far in spring training games, and the third wave of big league roster cuts are here. Six players were reassigned or optioned during the first wave, 10 during the second wave, and now nine more in the third. Here are all the players affected in this most recent wave of reassignments and options.
With this third wave, Payton Henry, Blake Perkins, Jake Cousins, and Elvis Peguero have all been optioned to Triple-A. Eddy Alvarez, Skye Bolt, Andruw Monasterio, Jon SIngleton and Josh VanMeter were all reassigned to Minor League camp.

Were there any surprises with this latest wave of Milwaukee Brewers spring training roster cuts?
Of the players optioned to Triple-A, Jake Cousins may be the most surprising. In 2021, he had a break out season and had set him self up nicely to earn a more prominent role as a high leverage reliever in 2022. Unfortunately an injury derailed most of his last season. This spring, he has struggled in which he has allowed seven earned runs in six innings pitched (10.50 ERA).

Elvis Peguero is also a slightly surprising name. He was acquired in the Hunter Renfroe trade and was having a nice spring to the tune of 7.2 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts, and a 3.52 ERA. His teammates were commenting on his big sinker as well. This may be a case where having minor league options actually hindered him from making the opening day roster.
The last surprising thing about this list of players is who has not been listed. Top outfield prospects such as Sal Frelick and Joey Wiemer have not yet been reassigned. It’s unclear at this time which direction the Milwaukee Brewers want to go in the outfield, but the longer we don’t see these prospects names the better chance that one or both of them have at being added to the 40-man roster and potentially the opening day roster.
