The Milwaukee Brewers snapped a three game losing streak when they defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-2 on Saturday night. Tobias Myers set a career high in strikeouts, Willy Adames, Gary Sanchez, and William Contreras all hit home runs, and Devin Williams recorded the save. Their efforts preserved the fact that the Brew Crew are the only MLB team without a losing streak of four or more games this year.
Milwaukee Brewers rookie Tobias Myers set a career high in strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies.
Tobias Myers was dialed in early during this ball game. Through three innings he had recorded seven consecutive strikeouts that included one punch out looking where he painted the corner at an impressive 96 MPH. He ended up tossing six innings in this game and the only run he surrendered was a solo home run.
Following Tobias Myers was Jared Koenig. He worked two innings, allowed one run, and struck out a pair of batters. Devin Williams then worked an impressive ninth inning where he struck out the side on 11 pitches (nine strikes). All-in-all the Brewers pitching staff generated 16 strikeouts.
Three Milwaukee Brewers batters hit home runs and William Contreras snapped an 0-20 streak.
A big part of the Brewers offense Saturday night was the home run ball. Willy Adames and Gary Sanchez went back-to-back in the first inning. During the third inning William Contreras snapped an 0-20 at the plate with an opposite field two run blast. The last run was scored in the fourth inning when Joey Ortiz hit a double down the left field line that scored Sal Frelick from first base.
The Milwaukee Brewers are the only MLB team without a losing streak of four or more games.
This year the Brewers remain the only team in Major League Baseball without a losing streak of four or more games. On nine different occasions they have had a three game losing streak but each time they have prevailed with a win and not lost a fourth consecutive game. Tobias Myers was asked about this impressive feat post game and he said, “We just never give up…We just always believe in each other and just fight until the end, for sure.”
The Brewers and Rockies will conclude their three game series on Sunday, September 8. Milwaukee’s magic number to win the division is currently at 10 games.
