Move over Slam Diego, the Milwaukee Brewers have turned the 414 into a grand slamming city.
Thanks to a Brice Turang grand slam in the Brewers’ 7-1 victory against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, the crew has now hit five slams in the past eight games; Four of them occurring in the 5-1 homestand against the Texas Rangers and Cubs.
Milwaukee Brewers just the second team in MLB history to accomplish this mark.
The Milwaukee Brewers become just the second team in Major League history to hit five grand slams over any eight-game span. The last team to do that were the 2020 San Diego Padres.
“We found the secret plan for how to hit homers with the bases loaded and really, it’s been working,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Sunday’s win “We bought it. There was a recipe online.”
“Most homers are thrown, and I think if you look at all of those grand slams that were hit, you’ll see where the pitches are,” Murphy added. “You have to be ready when you get that opportunity.”
Turang started this whole grand slam fest when he hit one on June 22 in the ninth inning of a loss to the Padres, but it just fired up from there. Rhys Hoskins hit one on Monday, and Jake Bauer on Wednesday in the three-game sweep over the Rangers, and then Jackson Chourio became the youngest Milwaukee Brewers player to hit a grand slam in Friday’s series-opening win against the Cubs.
The secret to a good grand-slam.
Thanks to a misplay by Ian Happ, the Brewers were able to gain more opportunity to add some runs as they were up 2-1 thanks to a Christian Yelich two-run bomb. From Turang’s grand slam in San Diego through his grand slam on Sunday, the Brewers were 5-for-7 with the bases loaded, and all five hits happened to be grand slams.
“They’re trying to win every at-bat,” Turang said. “We’re having quality at-bats, trying to hit the ball hard. We caught a couple and hit some grand slams, it’s fun.”

According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Brewers have hit more grand slams in the last eight games than in 38 of the first 55 seasons of franchise history. The last time they hit multiple grand slams in a single homestand was in June of 2007 when Bill Hall slammed one against the Giants, and Johnny Estrada did the same against the Diamondbacks.
It’s also mentioned that the last time three grand slams were hit in a single homestand was in 1980 when Sixto Lezcano slammed the Brewers to victory against the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day and Cecil Cooper and Don Money each hit one in the second game of the season.
The Brewers won their ninth straight home series after Sunday’s victory against the Cubs. They haven’t dropped a series at home since the New York Yankees took two out of three back in April.
Up next for Milwaukee.
The crew will open up a seven-game road trip on Monday with a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies, followed by a trip to visit the Dodgers. RHP Bryse Wilson (5-3, 3.89) is expected to be on the mound for the Brewers on Monday while Colorado will have LHP Austin Gomber (1-5, 4.63) start on the bump.
