The Milwaukee Brewers are back over .500 with a 10-9 record following their 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. Milwaukee is now 4-2 in series play and has a day off before a three-game weekend series with the Athletics.
While early hot hitters Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio went hitless, going a combined 0-8 with three strikeouts, other Brewers bats were able to carry the offensive load. First baseman Rhys Hoskins homered for the second day in a row, going 2-3 with his big blast and two RBI. Designated hitter Christian Yelich also had two hits, including his fourth home run of the season.
But the star of day was Gold Glove outfielder Sal Frelick. In addition to his usual stellar defense, Frelick went 2-4 at the plate. One of these hits was his first home run of the season, which was also the first home run he had hit in a MLB regular season game since May 15 of last year.
Aside from his performance on the field, Frelick gained newfound admiration and love from fans for his postseason interview regarding the hero who threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.
Milwaukee Brewers Right Fielder Sal Frelick Credited a 105-Year-Old WWII Veteran for His Home Run

Ed Miklavcic may not be a household name, but he is undoubtedly a hero. At 105 years old, the Brookfield, Wisconsin resident is the second-oldest survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Today, he threw out the first pitch prior to the Brewers’ final game against Detroit.
Before throwing out the pitch, Frelick, Yelich, and Pat Murphy greeted the WWII veteran and spent a few moments talking to him.
After the game, when asked about his home run and quick meeting with Miklavcic, Frelick said, “There’s very few superheroes in the world and he’s one of them. I credited him with the home run. As soon as I came back to the dugout, I said, ‘I shook his hand.’ He’s from the greatest generation ever and I’m super honored to be in the presence of such a legend.”
With his performance today, the Brewers right fielder is now hitting .318/.408/.455 with a home run, six RBI, and five stolen bases.
Milwaukee Brewers Fans Adore Sal Frelick

When Frelick’s comments about Miklavcic were posted on social media, Brewers fans were quick to express how impressed they were with the right fielder:
