The Milwaukee Brewers are hosting the New York Mets this weekend for the final series of the 2024 regular season. Interestingly this could be a playoff preview as the two teams could potentially match up in the Wild Card Series, but right now probability lies heavily with the Brew Crew facing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Regardless, on Friday night’s game outfielder Sal Frelick suffered an injury that may put his ability to play in the postseason in jeopardy.
Sal Frelick suffered an injury against the New York Mets and had to be removed from the game.
Early in the game Sal Frelick was sprinting near full speed towards the right field wall to track down a fly ball. He ended up crashing into the wall and missed the padded part. It appeared that his left hip/back region hit the chain fence instead. He remained down for quite some time, was able to gingerly walk off the field, but then required some assistance from his teammates to get in the dugout and into the club house.
Sal Frelick will undergo further testing on his hip.
After being removed from the game Sal Frelick underwent x-rays. Brewers personnel indicated that the radiographs were inconclusive. The plan is for him to undergo an MRI on Saturday, September 28. His MRI is scheduled for 10:00am.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy and pitcher Frankie Montas comment on Sal Frelick’s outlook.
Post game Pat Murphy said the following about Sal Frelick’s injury, “I feel horrible for the young man, first and foremost, and it hurts our team because he’s a Gold Glove outfielder and he’s just a winning player. He’s a huge part of this thing, and that’ll be a big blow if he can’t play, which, you have to lean towards that right now.”

On the contrary starting pitcher Frankie Montas said he checked in on Sal Frelick after his night on the mound was done. Montas said Frelick appeared encouraged and optimistic about his trajectory going forward.
Be sure to stay tuned to Wisconsin Sports Heroics as we will provide an update on Sal Frelick as more information becomes available. If he is unable to go Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins would be in line for more consistent playing time going forward regardless of the pitching match ups.
