The Milwaukee Brewers have a remarkable ability to find and develop pitching talent. Whether it’s uncovering elite JUCO prospects like Aaron Ashby, Antoine Kelly, Carlos Rodriguez, and Jacob Misiorowski, striking gold with mid-round draft picks like Brandon Woodruff (11th round) and Craig Yoho (8th round), or signing international free agents like Abner Uribe, they consistently have good pitchers in their organization.
Recently, they got creative with a signing as they reportedly added a player out of Quebec. Before playing professionally in Quebec, this player pitched at Queensborough Community College, Florida Atlantic University (NCAA – Division 1), and Wilmington University (NCAA – Division 2). He went undrafted in 2022 and has been in Quebec since.
Ryan Sandberg has reportedly signed with the Milwaukee Brewers
Per the Capitales de Quebec social media page, right-handed pitcher Ryan Sandberg has signed with the Brewers. This move has not yet been announced by the team, but he is coming off a great season of professional baseball in Quebec. Should this report hold true, odd are that it would be a minor league deal.
Ryan Sandberg had a 2.18 ERA last year
Brewers Double-A Media Relations and Broadcaster Javik Blake did some digging into Sandberg. He found video of him on the mound in which his fastball typically sat in the 94-96 MPH range with 97 MPH being his top speed. From a statistics perspective, he had a 2.18 ERA over 103.1 innings last year that included 107 strikeouts and just 20 walks.

It’s hard to know if anything will come of this signing for the Brewers, but they clearly like what they see in Sandberg’s game and think he is deserving of a shot in affiliated baseball.
