Milwaukee Brewers rookie southpaw Robert Gasser was off to quite an impressive start to his MLB career before being sidelined with an elbow issue. The 25 year old began the year on the injured list because of his elbow and after it flared up again he ended up receiving three different opinions on how to manage it. Now he has to decide how to proceed.
Robert Gasser’s first two opinions varied in how to manage his elbow.

Per MLB.com the first opinion that Gasser received indicated that he could treat his elbow with rehab. A second opinion, from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, recommended reconstructive surgery for his ulnar collateral ligament. Due to varying options Gasser elected to proceed with obtaining a third opinion.
A third opinion was obtained from Dr. Keith Meister.

Robert Gasser chose Dr. Keith Meister as the provider to obtain his third opinion from. Dr. Meister performed surgery on Brandon Woodruff’s shoulder last off-season. The Texas based surgeon also operates on elbows as he has performed elbow surgery on Tyler Wells, Felix Bautista, Sandy Alcantara, Jacob Degrom, and many others.
Milwaukee Brewers Robert Gasser now has to decide how he wants to proceed.

Per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the opinion that Gasser received from Dr. Meister was the same as Dr.ElAttrache in that surgery is needed. Gasser now has to decide if he wants to proceed with rehab or surgery. Rehabbing the elbow may allow him to continue pitching this year, but comes with the risk of delaying surgery that may end up being needed in the future.
