The Milwaukee Brewers used 17 starting pitchers last season on their way to 93 wins and a surprising second consecutive National League Central Division title. The high number of starting pitchers used, of course, was the result of several of their initial rotation members getting hurt and missing time. However, it was also the result of some of the pitchers called up to take their spots getting hurt as well.
One of these was rookie left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser, who dazzled in his five starts prior to needing season-ending surgery. Through his first four starts, the southpaw had a 1.96 ERA and had only walked one batter. He was the first pitcher since 1910 to have a sub-2.00 and just one walk through his first four ca reer starts.
Unfortunately, Milwaukee will be without their exciting left-handed starter for most of the 2025 season.
The Milwaukee Brewers Placed Robert Gasser on the 60-Day Injured List

Earlier today, it was reported that the Brewers had agreed to a one year contract with veteran left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander. In a corresponding move, Milwaukee also placed Gasser on the 60-day injured list:

Of course, moving Gasser to a long-term injured list was to be expected. When he first got injured last season, the club estimated that he would not be Major League ready again until August of this year.
He was 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in his first five career starts.
Alexander is coming off a year spent with the Tampa Bay Rays that saw him go 6-5 with a 5.10 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 23 appearances, nine of which were starts.
He will be a possible addition to the starting rotation or bullpen.
