One of the least surprising developments of this past MLB offseason was Willy Adames leaving the Milwaukee Brewers in free agency. Even going into the 2024 season, everyone around baseball, and especially in the Brewers fanbase, knew that he was entering his final season with the team.
This truth became even more apparent as last season progressed, and Adames ended the year with a batting line of .251/.332/.462 to go with 32 home runs, 112 RBI, and 21 stolen bases. This production made him one of the most coveted free agents on the market, and he certainly cashed in on this status.
Adames’ seven-year $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants is the largest in their team’s history. But while he is no longer wearing a Milwaukee uniform, he is still universally loved by Brewers fans and players.
Milwaukee Brewers First Baseman Rhys Hoskins Opens Up About Willy Adames

The Brewers, winners of four of their last five games, kick off a 10-game road trip with a four-game series against Adames and the Giants in San Francisco. Rhys Hoskins, who is from Sacramento, California, was interviewed by MLB Network as the two teams prepare for tonight’s game.
During his interview, he was asked about Adames and what Milwaukee misses most about having him on their team:
“I hope he stinks these four games.” 🤣@Brewers slugger Rhys Hoskins joins #MLBTonight to talk about playing against former teammate Willy Adames for the first time. pic.twitter.com/Me0fMDSOzI

“I think any team misses that kind of guy,” Hoskins said. “Obviously, he is an unbelievable player, what he does from the shortstop position, but also kind of his clutch gene that he provides in the box.
“But I learned pretty quickly, just playing with him for a year, that his greatest impact on any team comes in the clubhouse. I always called him “La Energia,” he’s the same guy every single day. A lot of energy, and you know, over a long season, that type of guy just exudes confidence and brings the rest of the team with him.”
As heartwarming and sincere as these comments were, Hoskins made sure to add: “We definitely miss that, but I hope he stinks these next four games.”
Milwaukee will certainly face a tall task in trying to limit Adames, who knows their pitching staff so well. So far this season, he is hitting .202/.273/.281 with one home run and 11 RBI. Hopefully the Brewers’ pitchers can keep his cold start from heating up.
Hoskins, meanwhile, is trying to do his part in making up for the offensive production that the team is missing without their former shortstop. He is currently hitting .262/.352/.426 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
Milwaukee will certainly be hoping that this road trip helps wake up the bat of Joey Ortiz, who slid over from third base to shortstop with Adames’ departure. He is currently hitting a woeful .184/.271/.197 with no home runs and four RBI.
