During a recent appearance on the Foul Territory Podcast, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins opened up about how Pat Murphy is a manager.
Murphy is only in his first season as a full-time manager in the big leagues, but Hoskins is already seeing why everyone seems to like his ways on and off the field.
“He’s got a way of keeping it light over a long, long, long season, where you’re going to find yourselves in some valleys,” said Hoskins.
Apart from his personal skills, Murphy also excels in strategizing, which is especially important for a team like the Brewers who don’t have the biggest of budgets, as pointed out by Hoskins, who inked a two-year deal with Milwaukee last January.
“He’s a baseball guy. He’s been in this game for so long. He’s seen and thought about everything that could or will happen on a field. And I think because of that, he has us prepared . We, as the Brewers, you know, kind of have to play the game a little bit differently than some of these powerhouse teams in the league, running around the bay, the bases, causing chaos, bunting, trying to get a run here in the third, a run here in the fourth, and all of a sudden look we’re up, you know, six to three come time to eight.”
With Murphy at the helm, the Brewers are leading the National League Central by a big margin. They are 73-52 as of Tuesday – 11.5 games ahead of their rivals in the division.
