Three Milwaukee Brewers batters had incredible at-bats prior to Rhys Hoskins grand slam.
Prior to Hoskins magical moment all three batters ahead of him had incredible at-bats. William Contreras started the inning off with a double on the sixth pitch of at-bat. This resulted in starter Michael Lorenzen being removed from the game and left-handed reliever Jacob Latz replacing him. Christian Yelich then saw nine pitches in which the result ended up being a walk and Willy Adames also drew a free pass on the sixth pitch after initially going down in the count 0-2.

In a post-game video from Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Rhys Hoskins talked about the go-ahead grand slam and mentioned that, “It always feels great to come through for the guys.” He also talked about how Yelich and Adames had long at-bats ahead of him and he felt like the situation called for a high pitch, likely a strike, and he was able to capitalize on the first pitch that he saw.
“You got to want that fifth at bat if you’re 0 for 4.”
