The Milwaukee Brewers aimed to get the win during their final matchup of this three-game series with the Miami Marlins. Miami took the first game with a 3-2 victory, while the Brewers claimed the second game by a score of 7-5. As this game went on, we saw this one be determined by just one run that Miami scored in the first inning. This loss to the Marlins has to be a crushing blow to the leader of the NL Central division.
With this 1-0 win, the Marlins are 17-34, fifth in the NL East division by 19 and a half games. They sit five games out from the fourth-place New York Mets. The Milwaukee Brewers are now 28-21, a game and a half ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee will now head to Boston for a three-game for a three-game series with the Red Sox.
Milwaukee Brewers Look Restricted in 1-0 Loss to the Marlins
During the first at-bat of the bottom of the first inning, Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a leadoff home run off of Brewers starter Freddy Peralta into right field. This one run would be what determined the game as Milwaukee’s offense was shut down by Miami’s starting pitcher Jesús Luzardo. The Marlins starter definitely showcased his talents in this one, winning in his second straight start, putting his record at 2-3 for the season.
Luzardo retired 17 straight batters during this game and tossed a career-high eight scoreless innings. Chisholm Jr.’s home run was the 30th time in MLB history that a leadoff home run determined a 1-0 ball game. Both teams recorded four hits in this one, however, Miami’s center fielder’s homer was the deciding factor.
Jesús Luzardo Showcases As the Game’s Top Performer
Jesús Luzardo pitched eight scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out four batters in the win. Chisholm Jr. went one for four with his leadoff homer. Josh Bell, Nick Fortes, and Tim Anderson also recorded hits during the Marlins win.
For the Brewers, starter Freddy Peralta pitched seven innings allowing one run on four hits, and a walk while striking out seven batters. William Contreras, and Willy Adames each had a hit while catcher Gary Sánchez went two for three in the loss. Both teams scored nine runs apiece during this series, but regardless Miami found a way to get two huge wins over the leaders of the NL Central division.
Milwaukee’s Offense Needs to Pull Through in Boston
There is no doubt during the Brewers next series against the Red Sox, that the offense has to step up and carry the weight of the team if they want to continue staying in that first-place spot within the NL Central. Although it won’t be for a few weeks, there has been a date set for the return of Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell, who will certainly provide a spark to the offense.
