A year ago, the Chicago Cubs made waves across baseball by signing former Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell. While it was known that Counsell was meeting with teams outside of Milwaukee, Jed Hoyer kept his discussions with Counsell under wraps. Fast forward to today, and the Cubs reportedly have once again snagged a long-time member of the Brewers’ staff.
The Chicago Cubs are expected to sign a long-time member of the Milwaukee Brewers staff
Earlier in the week it was reported that Brewers were not expected to be able to retain first base coach Quintin Berry. New reports have now surfaced as to why in which Will Sammon, Patrick Mooney, and Sahadev Sharma at The Athletic have indicated that the Chicago Cubs are expected to sign him to be their third base coach. Craig Counsell and Quintin Berry worked together at the big league level from 2021-2023.
Quintin Berry was a major contributor to giving the Brewers the reputation of a team that does the little things well
While fans saw Quintin Berry as the Brewers first base coach, he also played a significant role in base-running and stolen bases. Quintin Berry helped the Brewers become an efficient base stealing team by paying attention to the small details and relaying them to runners. He was known for speed and good baseball instincts as a player and those traits carried over to his coaching career.
