Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Black has been on a tear this season. The former 33rd overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft struggled to stay healthy last season, but this year his performance to date has his prospect stock on the rise. Currently he is in Double-A with the Biloxi Shuckers and he tied a franchise record.
Tyler Black, the Milwaukee Brewers 5th ranked prospect, has tied a Biloxi Shuckers franchise record.
Over the last 27 contests Tyler Black has reached base safely every time. As mentioned this has tied a Shuckers franchise record. Cooper Hummel, who was involved in the 2021 trade that landed Milwaukee Eduardo Escobar, also had a 27 game on base streak with Biloxi.
One reason why Tyler Black has managed to reach base safely in 27 straight games is because of his ability to draw walks. He currently has an on-base percentage of .420. This is very impressive given the fact that his current batting average is .236.
Overall he is walking in 21% of his at-bats and has accumulated over 40 free passes through the first two months of the season. In addition to being patient at the plate Tyler Black is also stealing a lot of bases. So far he has stolen 25 bases.
It’s been very fun to see these results for Tyler Black. He is an electric player who has a great hit tool and a ton of speed. Hopefully he can continue to perform well with the Biloxi Shuckers.
