The Milwaukee Brewers are rewarding their fourth round draft selection in the 2022 MLB draft with an early season promotion. Matthew Wood, a 22 year old catcher, excelled with the Carolina Mudcats (Low-A level) and will now play in Wisconsin with the Timber Rattlers (High-A level).
On the team’s top 30 prospect list, Matthew Wood is currently ranked 26th. There is only one other prospect who is a catcher that is ranked ahead of him in that position. That player is 20 year old Jefferson Quero who is currently playing in Double-A with the Biloxi Shuckers.

Thriving Milwaukee Brewers prospect Matthew Wood has been promoted to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
With the Carolina Mudcats Matthew Wood slashed .293/.468/.488 in 25 games. He walked an astonishing 26 times and struck out in just 15 at-bats. During his stint with the Mudcats he had a streak of reaching base safely in 20 consecutive games!
With the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wood will join Alex Hall and Darien Miller as one of three catchers on the roster. As a left-handed swinging hit first type catcher he is an intriguing player to follow. It will be interesting to see what this former Penn State alumni can do a level higher in the minor leagues.
Matthew Wood will have his first opportunity with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday May 16 as they open a six game home stand against the Quad City River Bandits.
