In 2022 the Milwaukee Brewers called up left-handed pitching prospect Ethan Small to make two starts for them. His MLB debut came on May 30 against the Chicago Cubs and he made a second start at the end of July against the Minnesota Twins. Overall he covered 6.1 innings across the two starts and allowed five earned runs.
Unfortunately last season was a struggle for the former 28th overall selection out of Mississippi State. His command escaped him as he walked 58 batters in 103 innings pitched at the Triple-A level. To go along with this he also fought mechanical, mental, and confidence issues.
This year he is getting better results on the mound at Triple-A and is strictly operating out of the bullpen. Over 12 appearances his strikeout numbers are higher (13.03 K:9), ERA is lower (2.33), but walks remain a concern (6.05 BB:9).
Ethan Small has been promoted to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Nearly a year after making his MLB debut Ethan Small has been promoted once again to the Brewers. A day after Tyson Miller struggled out of the bullpen they have optioned him to Triple-A and promoted their number 11th ranked prospect to the big leagues.

As mentioned earlier Ethan Small has been working as a relief pitcher this season. Despite numerous injuries to the starting rotation he will likely remain in a bullpen role. He can however work multiple innings. In the minor leagues he covered 3 innings on two different occasions and had a good mix of single and multi inning appearances.
