The Milwaukee Brewers are just over a week away from a promising 2023 season. While the team did not make any major moves in free agency, it is hard to argue with the fact that they are a much improved team than they were in 2022, a season in which they won 86 games. During an interview with Drew & KB on 97.3 The Game, Brewers’ announcer, and former pitcher, Tim Dillard offered some bold and exciting predictions regarding the 2023 season.
The Milwaukee Brewers Have a lot to Be Excited About in 2023

Drew and KB asked Dillard what he thought of the team this season and how he thinks they will perform in 2023. In response, Dillard said:
“I think it’s a really good club. Like I said, there’s about 30 guys that deserve to make this team, and only 26 can do it. You got to be excited about a new crop: Garrett Mitchell, Joey Wiemer, Sal Frelick. I mean, some of these guys have the potential to make the Opening Day roster. Look at Brice Turang. Man, that guy can play second base or shortstop as good as anybody in the Big Leagues.
“Maybe Brian Anderson has a big season. Maybe at third base. He’s a good third baseman. When was the last time they had a guy at third base that they put there and he’s there the entire season? They got Rowdy Tellez, they can put him at first base and get production from Rowdy. Same with Brian Anderson. I mean, there’s a huge shift there. It’s either home run, double, or bust.
“I think the lefties are going to have some major seasons this year.”
The reason Dillard believes that left-handed hitters will have major seasons this year is due to Major League baseball banning the shift. As he stated, for the past 10 years, no left-handed hitter was willing to take the ball down the left field line to beat the shift, so Major League Baseball “had to do something about it.”
Left-handed hitters on the Brewers roster are as follows:
- Christian Yelich
- Rowdy Tellez
- Brice Turang
- Jesse Winker
- Garrett Mitchell
In addition to these, Victor Caratini and Abraham Toro are switch hitters.

Drew and KB then asked Dillard if he thinks small ball and hit and runs will play a bigger role in the Brewers’ offensive approach this year. Dillard responded: “Well, there are going to be stolen bases galore. The bases are bigger this year.”
Dillard explained how rule changes this year are going to be difficult for pitchers to adapt to at first.
If the Brewers get the major seasons from these players that Dillard predicts, there is going to be a lot to be excited about in Milwaukee.
Listen to the entire show in the link above to hear Dillard talk about all this and:
- Why the Brewers will have the hardest throwing infield in baseball this year
- Why the current young group of guys (Mitchell, Frelick, Wiemer) are comparable to when Braun, Fielder, Hart, Weeks, and Hardy all came up together.
