Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher and former Milwaukee Brewers hurler Brent Suter has been among the nominees for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, as announced by Cincy’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Cincinnati native making a big impact in his hometown community. Congrats to Brent Suter on being named the Reds’ 2024 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award!”
The Roberto Clemente Award is given every year by MLB to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship and altruism in and off the field. The award is determined via fan and media votes. Last season, New York Yankees superstar slugger Aaron Judge won the award, and for what it’s worth, only one Brewers player has taken home the honor, so far. In 1983, then Brewers first baseman Cecil Cooper bagged the award.
Suter, who played several seasons with the Brewers gets nominated on the strength of his dedication to helping the Reds Youth Academy. He is also working with La Soupe, which is an organization that helps fight hunger.
It is also worth noting that Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta is among those nominated for the award.
Brent Suter’s career with the Milwaukee Brewers
Suter played his first seven seasons in the big leagues wearing a Brewers uniform. He made his MLB debut with Milwaukee in 2016 and played for the team until 2022. During his time with Milwaukee, Suter garnered a 36-19 record and a 3.51 ERA across 196 appearances and 394.2 innings.
He was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Rockies in 2022 before signing a one-year deal worth $3 million with the Reds last January.
So far in the 2024 MLB season, Suter has a 3.38 ERA through 58.2 innings pitched.
