Milwaukee Brewers hitters had no answer for Pittsburgh Pirates rookie starting pitcher Paul Skenes on Thursday afternoon. The Brewers lost the game to the Pirates 1-0 and Pittsburgh beat Milwaukee two out of three.
Skenes against Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon pitched seven innings, gave up zero hits, and struck out 11 batters. He was untouchable all game long and has been very good during his rookie season. It was a shock that Pirates manager Derek Shelton yanked him after the seventh inning and he was under 100 pitches.

The only explanation as to why he yanked him is so he can pitch at some point in the MLB All-Star Game for the National League on Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. Otherwise, there was no excuse for pulling him and he should have had the opportunity to pitch all nine innings. There were a lot of people who questioned the move by the Pirates manager on Thursday afternoon.
Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates Fans React To Paul Skenes Getting Pulled After the Seventh-Inning

Had the Pirates lost the game on Thursday afternoon to the Brewers, there would have been a lot of people complaining about Skenes getting pulled from the game. A lot of MLB fans did complain about the move to yank him from the game. This is what some fans had to say on Twitter when Skenes was pulled from the game:
OTHER THAN AN INNING IN TEXAS PAUL SKENES WAS GETTING A WEEK OFF. MAYBE MORE. THIS WAS THE PERFECT TIME TO LET HIM KEEP PITCHING!!!

Paul Skenes pulled after 7 no-hit innings and 99 pitches and it doesn’t look like he was laboring here, does it?
Look, I get it. I really do. But if we’re at the point where 120 pitches is out of the question for a horse like this guy, fuck off.

Paul Skenes, one of this year’s most electric, must-see pitchers, is pulled with a no-hitter in progress after 7 innings and 11 strikeouts.
No longer are pitchers given the opportunity to achieve greatness. Imagine pulling Gibson, Clemens or Mussina here? pic.twitter.com/RoovmYAnTA

There is no doubt that analytics has ruined the game of baseball. Paul Skenes should have had a chance to make history for the Pittsburgh Pirates. It appears as if the days of starting pitchers going nine innings in a game even if they have a no-hitter going on are officially over.

Skenes was upset with manager Derek Shelton pulling him from the game. Paul Skenes wanted to throw a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Glenn Kaplan were you in the dugout to know inside information.?They won. That pitcher is being handled just fine. So judgmental with no clue about the situation. Throw one more inning and get to 120? What’s the point? Oh, I know…you wanted a better story.
